Field Walk 040121

"Field Walk 040121” is a sound walk recorded from the “point of hearing” of the artist, following his journey along a pilgrim route, known as the Kerry Camino, which passes through rural town land of Inch, Co. Kerry. The walk was recorded at the beginning of 2021, when Steenson entered a period of restricted movement, after being a close contact with someone diagnosed with Covid-19. In this rural context, the sounds made by the artist are some of the few human sounds that can be heard, with a focus on the artist’s breathing forming a meditative thread to the recording, as he traverses through the changing terrain of the camino.

Christopher Steenson is a Northern Irish artist currently based in Co. Kerry. His practice uses listening as a method of navigating changing elements of our environment.
