Lakelands

Film screening of Lakelands, the debut feature from Robert Higgins and Patrick McGivney.

Lakelands follows Cian, a young Gaelic footballer struggling to come to terms with a career-ending injury after an attack on a night out. He undertakes a search for his own identity in a small town where Gaelic football is a religion, and identity is defined by what you can do on the pitch.

Lakelands which is the debut feature from Robert Higgins and Patrick McGivney features emerging Irish stars Éanna Hardwicke (Vivarium, Normal People), who was named as one of Screen International's Rising Stars Ireland last month, and Danielle Galligan (Netflix's Shadow and Bone) as well as Gary Lydon (Banshees of Inisherin), Dafhyd Flynn (Michael Inside), and Lorcan Cranitch (The Dig).

Nominated for 4 IFTAs (Best Picture, Lead Actor, Lead Actress, Original Music).

“Creative partners Robert Higgins and Patrick McGivney thread their deceptively small story with a skein of poignant themes while lead actor Eanna Hardwicke convinces as a lad about a small town whose dangerous concussion forces an uncomfortable facing up to his future.” - Fionnuala Halligan, Screen Daily
